Ezekiel was appointed as a watchman for the nation of Israel (Ch 3, 33). A watchman warned of coming danger and also had the task of announcing the dawn of a new day. Warning and Hope.
This is very much the role of Ezekiel speaking to exiles living in troubled times. He warns of God’s judgment on Jerusalem and gives hope of restoration to come. Through the words of this watchman we too are given warning and hope for the troubled times we live in. Through Ezekiel we are given a big vision of God’s sovereignty over the chaos of our world, warned of coming judgment on sin, and pointed to the gospel of Jesus in whom we have the hope of restoration to relationship with God.
